Tipton Police Department

The Tipton Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of police officer.


From February 21, 2020 until April 3, 2020 application packets can be picked up at 225 E. Jefferson Street Tipton, Indiana 46072 or downloaded from the City of Tipton website at http://www.tiptongov.comCompleted applications and all required attachments must be turned in at the Tipton Police Department no later than 3:00pm on April 3, 2020.


The Tipton Police Department currently employs thirteen paid police officers and four reserve officers. The starting yearly salary for a Probationary Officer is in excess of $44,000. Upon completion of the probationary period and all training, a First Class Patrolman has a yearly salary of nearly $45,000. Other available benefits include health insurance, paid vacation/holidays, instructor programs, health savings account, longevity pay, certification pay, and take home vehicle program.


Basic eligibility requirements include:


1. Shall possess a valid Indiana driver's license (or obtain one within 60 days of becoming an Indiana resident) and have no more than eight active points.

2. Shall be a U.S. citizen.

3. Shall be at least 21 years of age, and not have reached 36 years of age by date of appointment.

4. Shall be drug free, and have no convictions for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs.

5. Shall not have a conviction for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, or operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or above.

6. Shall have no felony convictions.

7. Shall not have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

8. Shall not have been dishonorably discharged from the military.

9. Shall be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate.

10. Shall not have used an illegal drug in the last three years.

11. Shall have vision correctable to 20/50.

12. Must be willing, if appointed, to reside within Tipton County.


Physical testing will be conducted on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Tipton High School for those that turn in completed applications. Physical testing standards can found here: http://www.in.gov/ilea/2338.htm. Exit standards will be used for our hiring process. Applicants successfully completing the physical test will be given a comprehensive written test in the afternoon of Saturday, April 25, 2020. Applicants need to bring a blank $20 money order to pay for the written test.
